Structural Transformation of Pt–Ni Nanowires as Oxygen Reduction Electrocatalysts to Branched Nanostructures during Potential Cycles

We report the preparation, oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) electrocatalytic activity, and structural transformation of Pt–Ni nanowires (NWs) during potential cycles in presence absence nanoparticles (NPs). The ORR activity NWs increases over 25000 NPs, involving to branched nanostructures assisted by Ostwald ripening NPs. This is coupled with surface electronic change, as confirmed situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy carbon monoxide stripping voltammetry, leading catalytic improvement Pt dissolution suppression. Although a similar was also observed even greater amounts were dissolved cycles. These results indicate that intrinsic Pt-based but NPs beneficial suppress dissolution. concept optimization nanostructured catalysts under will guide us develop highly active durable electrocatalysts phase-engineered nanomaterials.
